I believe that counseling is a very personal and individual process. No two people find self-fulfillment and growth from the same methods or practices. I strive to cater my therapeutic services to meet your specific needs and personality. You are the expert on your life. My expertise can help guide your journey and assist you in cultivating the life you want for yourself in individual therapy or for your relationship in couples/marriage counseling.

I am passionate about helping others get past the traumas of life that are holding them back. We all experience trauma in different ways throughout our lifetime. Most of the time we are successful in processing the trauma to naturally achieve post-traumatic growth. When something is particularly disturbing and hard to process, it can become painful and lead us to feel stuck. I help my clients process through to the other side to experience the growth that allows us to move forward.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (permit #LPC.0014234) registered in the state of Colorado. I obtained my Masters in Counseling from the University of Colorado, Denver. Prior to pursuing my graduate degree, I had a full career as a Forensic Scientist working as a DNA analyst and a Crime Scene Technician. This experience continues to be helpful in that I provide a logical and/or emotional perspective depending on what best meets my client’s needs.

Therapeutic modalities and techniques that I incorporate into my counselor tool box:

  • Rapid Resolution Therapy
  • Memory Reconsolidation
  • Solution Focused/Narrative Therapy
  • Trauma-Informed Hypnotherapy
  • Eriksonian Hypnosis

  • Attachment-based Therapy
  • Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy
  • Gottman’s Couples Therapy
  • Experiential
  • Mindfulness

What is Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT)

Rapid Resolution Therapy is a relatively new therapeutic method developed by Dr. Connolly who also founded the Institute of Rapid Resolution Therapy located in Florida. Over the years, Dr. Connolly developed and refined Rapid Resolution Therapy into a very efficient and effective counseling technique that has helped numerous clients gain relief from depression, anxiety, grief, anger, shame/guilt and trauma. Rapid Resolution Therapy helps free individuals from the painful experiences of the past and provides positive change both cognitively and behaviorally.

Couples/Marriage Counseling

From my experience, most couple/married relationships suffer because it can be hard to communicate with each other. Good communication not only involves being able to express thoughts and feeling accurately, it also requires listening skills and an understanding of what filters we have established that might be interfering. In other words, the message sent may not be the message received. Most people do not receive formal training on how to effectively communicate. Instead, we tend to learn how to communicate by what was modeled for us in the culture we are raised in. In the beginning of a relationship, we can easily overlook the confusion we experience but over time poor communication can cause strife and distance in the relationship.

As a couples/marriage counselor, my goal is the help both partners identify, understand, and change the relationship patterns that have not been working. Once we have implemented some ground rules about communication, we can then explore what actions and behaviors are occurring in the relationship that are causing hurt or pain. We then heal the relationship by implementing new ways and patterns that are more effective and provide deeper connection. My role as a counselor is to protect and be a voice for the relationship; keeping this mindset, prevents me from siding with one partner or another.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling is for those that want to achieve personal growth or change. From the process of self-exploration, one can identify what is and is not working in their life. We develop thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and behaviors based on the experiences we have, mostly in the interest of helping us cope with that which is in front of us. Sometimes we continue patterns long after we no longer need them and they no longer serve us without realizing it.

As an individual counselor, I will help guide you through a journey of self-discovery that will empower you towards the change you are seeking. In addition to identifying issues, developing coping skills, and finding new effective patterns to implement, I provide a safe environment and support towards the goal(s) you are seeking.

Individual and Marital Coaching

Coaching provides a slightly different approach than counseling. Coaching offers a more direct and task-oriented method of helping affect change. While counseling focuses more on healing the past, coaching looks to how to change today and the future. Together we will target on solution-focused techniques that help you to reach specific goals and motivate progress towards the future.

Counseling and coaching work well together in that one provides healing and freedom from past trauma and the other provides hope for the present and the future.

As a counselor and coach, I will meet my clients where they are at. Some days they need counseling and other days, they want to be coached. Because every person is unique, I cater my style to fit the needs/wants of the client.
